While the majority of our work can be completed remotely, we also provide clients with on-site IT support whenever it’s needed. Recently, we visited one of our clients on the Isle of Arran to make improvements to their existing systems. We always enjoy getting out of the office and meeting our clients face to face — especially when it involves a trip to the beautiful Isle of Arran. The scenery there never gets old!

The Journey: From the Office to the Island
The day started early as I had a two-hour drive across the country ahead of me to make the ferry. After a short scenic trip across the water, I went straight to the first of two sites my client has on the Island.
Supporting Our Client On-Site
In this case, we visited not only to install new equipment and replace older systems that were beginning to struggle, but also to meet with the managers of both sites to discuss their current IT setup.
This allowed us to ensure everything was running as it should and identify any areas for future improvement. Our main goal is to make our clients’ day-to-day operations easier and provide their visitors with a better overall experience.
Site 1 – Upgrades and Improvements
There were various upgrades and improvements required at site 1. This included;
- Three new computers and a new laptop delivered and setup for various users
- Collect six old computers to be retuned to their head office on the mainland for secure disposal
- Discuss replacing two existing slow broadband connections with one modern, faster connection
- Upgrading site infrastructure to allow one network over the whole site
- Discuss replacing existing separate wireless networks with one site wide network to improve roaming
The main purpose of these changes is to improve efficiency for the client and their visitors. All upgrades completed were successful, and our client was happy with plans going forward. It was then time to visit Site 2.

Site 2 – Optimising Performance and Future Planning
Site two improvements involved optimising performance and future planning. This included:
- Upgrading two computers
- Complete general health check of all computers and related devices
- Discuss imminent installation of new broadband service
The main goal for this visit was to keep systems reliable and future-ready. We were happy that this was achieved from our short trip to Arran. It was then time to travel back to the mainland to return old equipment to head office and continue work on future plans.
In total, the trip covered 282 miles and took approximately eight hours of travel time. While it may seem like a long travel day, we enjoyed visiting our clients are providing them with the vital support and equipment they need.
Why On-Site IT Support Still Matters
Many of our clients are working in a fast-paced environment and enjoy having access to remote IT support as and when they need it. However, there are cases where on-site IT support is required. Being on site allows us to physically look at the hardware or network issues ourselves and find a solution quickly. If equipment or networks stop working properly, it can bring business operations to a standstill. We understand the importance of delivering reliable IT support and being available to provide emergency assistance whenever issues arise.
